In the morning, I received a thank you letter from a student via email. It was so touching to see his gratitude amidst the gloomy world around us. He often comes to my office hours and is a very hardworking Chinese student who is both intelligent and inquisitive about academic planning matters. He also confides a lot in me regarding his studies, and I can tell he deeply appreciates my guidance.
He looks so bright and innocent during our conversations, with the way his mind keeps jumping to new ideas still fresh. It reminds me of many things from the pastI wonder if other Chinese students feel this way as well, always eager to learn something new and thus very willing to share their thoughts with me. Education is truly such a magical thing.
By afternoon, I had just started writing some documents in the library when the phone rang. The weather outside was lovely, but my soul was already weary from all these years of toiling away for knowledgethis beautiful weather felt like a slap in the face. Still, every now and then, there would be moments when the restless energy buried deep within me would stir again, fueling my desire to explore new ideas and learn more. This energy would give me the strength to keep pushing forward.
No matter how hard I work, I know this place is not where it belongs. I cannot afford to let myself get worn down here.
